eat: powerberries

i’ve recently discovered the greatest food on the planet powerberries (from trader joes).  i’m convinced these can solve most of the world’s problems.  delicious.

buy: flowers

if tim continues to buy me flowers every time i’m having a bad day i’m going to start faking being moody!  (but seriously, it’s better to fake a bad mood than something important… like a good mood or an orgasm or… well anything else, right?! )

it is nice when someone realizes you’re stressed and attempts to buy you a happy heart.

*men, please view this post as free advice to buy your significant other flowers and get yourself some great-guy credit in the process*

go: blue line

last weekend we were quite busy with happy joy-inducing things:

  • family time – we visited tim’s family in the suburbs and then visited my family for my dad’s 56th bday
  • friend time – double date!  dinner at el barco and then drinks at the blue line with friends.  if you haven’t played battleship at a bar before, you’re missing out.
  • church time – the message this week was especially good.
  • spin class time – sweat > no sweat.  always.

travel & eat: santa barbara

i ate a lot (and well!) in california (have i mentioned i went there this last weekend?!).

my favorite spots :

– los toros in the LA area with nikki and bob (tim’s sister and brother-in-law).  i can’t get the bean dip out of my head.

– barney’s beanery in west hollywood with chris and geoff.  i was so happy to see chris and then i failed to take pics with him.  major fail, since i haven’t seen him in 3 years before this weekend!  that just means we have to get together again soon, chris.

– aldos in santa barbara (along state st).  you can never go wrong with italian food and eating outdoors in january!

– biltmore brunch in santa barbara.  out of this world.  words can’t even describe.

– the harbor restaurant in santa barbara.  we saw seals playing at dinner!

we also did wine tasting at a vineyard (firestone).

what could be better than seeing good friends and family (none of who i took pics of… i suck) and eating delicious food and spending quality time with tim and walking in the sunshine and seeing the ocean and seals and just relaxing for a whole weekend 5 days?  nothing.  absolutely nothing could be better.

travel: santa barbara (hotel views)

nice hotel views make me happy.  thank you consulting for giving me enough hotel points to always get upgraded.

travel: santa barbara

because of some weather / airline related issues… i was forced had the opportunity to go to LA a day earlier than i had planned.

we spent a few fun-filled days in the overcast skies sun (more on that in the next few posts!) and were having so much fun in santa barbara that we decided to change our return flight to monday, instead of taking our original flight, which was scheduled for sunday.

life is hard, right?  🙂

i hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.

things my friends say

my very-lovely boyfriend asks some of the most random questions when looking at potential apartments.

my personal favorite, “can netflix dvds fit in the mailbox without being jammed in or bent?”  (the person showing us the apartment actually opened up the mailbox for him so he could be assured dvds would not, in fact, get bent.)

the random part about this is – WE DON’T SUBSCRIBE TO NETFLIX!

he makes me smile.

read: quashing the self-improvement urge

i think you should probably read this (quashing the self-improvement urge).  i am pretty obsessed with this particular zen habits post because it tells me i’m already perfect and probably shouldn’t be stressed about not being able t fit everything into one day/week/month/year/lifetime… you get the idea.

a small excerpt so you know what to expect when you click on the link…  😉

It’s everywhere. Where does this urge come from? It’s embedded in our culture — in the U.S. from Benjamin Franklin to the early entrepreneurial titans, everyone is trying to better themselves. It goes deeper, to ancient Western ideals of the perfect well-rounded person. But it flourished in the 20th century, from Dale Carnegie and Napoleon Hill to Stephen Covey. And now it’s in full bloom, with blogs. And yes, I’m part of this movement.

eat: penne with roasted asparagus and balsamic butter

after brit & whit hosted us for new years, i couldn’t help but be inspired to cook something!  and cook something i did.  i hope tim doesn’t get used to this ‘domestic side’ of me – i don’t anticipate it lasting too long!

penne with roasted asparagus and balsamic butter (thank you, food & wine magazine!)

new years resolutions

i’m allowed to talk about the fact that it’s 2012 until at least the 2nd week of the year, right?

i suck at resolutions, so i’ll pass along a link of resolutions i wish i would have written, and am hereby adopting as my own.  thanks.

i think i’m going to love 2012 based on the fact that it’s an even number year.

also:

  • we’re moving into a new (and hopefully, wonderful) apartment.
  • there are plans in the works to get a puppy.
  • there has been another important addition to the clan… a beautiful camera.

what more could a girl ask for?
